Keeping business-critical software reliable in regulated manufacturing.
I lead the team behind the core systems of an MHRA-licensed pharmaceutical manufacturer, where software underpins production and order fulfilment for NHS and private healthcare customers.
After nearly ten years, moving from backend developer to team lead, I have learned that the biggest risks in systems like these are rarely technical alone. They are fragile releases, undocumented knowledge and too much depending on too few people.
What I focus on
- Reliable releases. Moving regression testing to Selenium and JUnit cut manual effort per release from days to hours.
- Less dependence on individuals. Engineering standards, runbooks and support playbooks make systems easier to hand over, audit and support.
- Safe, staged modernisation. I have worked on database high availability, a move from virtual machines to Kubernetes, and support for a partner's AWS migration, all without interrupting live operations.
- Growing capable teams. I coach engineers into specialist roles and know when a team needs dedicated expertise.
