I lead the team that develops and supports business-critical systems at an MHRA-licensed pharmaceutical manufacturer, where software underpins production and order fulfilment for NHS and private healthcare customers.

Over nearly ten years, I've moved from backend developer to team lead, combining line management with hands-on Java/Spring Boot and Angular development and DevOps. I've been part of a staged modernisation of our platform: clustering our database for high availability, moving from virtual machines to Kubernetes, and supporting a migration to AWS.

I care about systems that are reliable, well tested and not dependent on any one person. That includes developing the people around me, such as coaching a manual tester into our test automation lead, and recognising when a growing team needs dedicated expertise.

Interested in conversations about keeping core systems reliable and modernising them safely in regulated environments.

Software Development Lead

· Line manage developers and testers, including the QA test lead: setting priorities, running planning and releases, and conducting one-to-ones and appraisals.
· Guide design and development in Java (Spring Boot) and Angular for business-critical applications used across multiple group legal entities, and lead incident resolution and root-cause analysis.
· Introduced engineering standards (branching strategy, code review, ADRs, architecture diagrams, specifications), deployment runbooks and support playbooks, improving onboarding, traceability and consistency, and reducing dependence on individuals.
· Coached a manual QA tester into a test automation lead; together moved regression testing to Selenium/JUnit, cutting manual effort per release from days to hours.
· Owned DevOps (Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana), then interviewed and onboarded a senior DevOps engineer and handed over operational ownership.
· Contributed to a staged modernisation: MySQL InnoDB Cluster with ProxySQL, migration from virtual machines to Kubernetes, and support for a partner's AWS migration.
